The white wolf stayed silent, nodding her head at nay answer or comment Marrok said. She already felt a sense of disturbance, change in the air around her. The golden beams of light that poured into the trees seemed to shimmer over her and Marrok as they trotted over the earth. Her icy eyes scanning the landscape, and her large ears swiveling back and forth to hear anything suspicious. She began to remember the words of her grandmother, Yin, she could almost see the worn and washed eyes of her elder, the brightness of yellow that seemed to beam out from her old demeanor. She could feel Yin's presence waking beside her, the white pelted elder guiding her along the hunt, as she did a year ago. "Focus Isis"she whispered faintly in her head,"find the seams, but keep very quiet" Isis barely heard her words, but as she replayed them in her head, they seemed to get louder. She looked to the sides, trying to hear the light feathery foot steps of a light hearted deer. She felt as if she were walking on air, her toes stepping on nothing but damp earth and lacking the disturbance of sound. Then the white wolf looked forward, staring at the backside of Marrok, but she could swear she saw something different. He was thinner than before, more slender, and the dakrness of his husky pelt had melted to a pure white. His ears were pure black and his tial was lifted high, then she recalled the backside of her dominant sister,"Fan?"she questioned quickly, her voice faintly overcoming the silent hum of the forest. She could feel the blood in her heart run cold and the pads of her silent feet turn incredibly hot. She blinked her eyes, the recollection of her packs' hunting positions had taken the reality of her hunt for survival, the faint memories of her pack ranking had infested its images on what was real. Yet, in all the fearful and ghostly recollection, she wasn't afraid, the memory seemed kind, like the ghosts of her pack were guiding her, leading her to where she belonged.

Then it hit her, the warm and fresh scent that grabbed her by the jaw and made her drool. The robust stench that made her hunger double, the intense smell of blood had come to her presence, and it wasn't far. Suddenly the presence of her pack left her, her beloved sister that led her to the scent had warped back to her companion, Marrok. Then his words became clear, and the importance in his voice made her focus twice as much. She flattened her ears and forwarded her eyes to sharply watch for the kill that Marrok predicted was ahead. The thrill of the hunt pumped through her life giving arteries, and the hungry power of blood lust rna through her stomach like a virus. She slowly sauntered closer to the source of blood, anticipating every torturous step closer to the kill.

Shelter for a stranger - Page 2 Marrok11
Each climactic step closer was pure bliss for Marrok’s senses. It was almost painful to let the situation drag out so much, and not to just barge out into a desperate sprint. The buds of his tongue sizzled with the tang of flavor he anticipated once he sunk his fangs deep into the pelt of an unsuspecting grazer. The scent was far too vivid to be a corpse, as Marrok assumed the figure ahead may be injured, spilling its drips of velvet blood across the green covered landscape. How Marrok only wished to have began hunting at dusk, which would have made for a perfect storm in terms of getting a kill. But they were on the move, and knowing they were traveling upwind on the scent of a disadvantaged creature lying further on was enough to please him. His eyes even started to tear with the aroma so infested within his body and the opportunity nearly throwing itself to him. The wounded animal could not be very far; at the most 100 meters away. As the tension finally reached a point of no return, something he could have never foreseen happened right before his eyes. “Lay at ease, you’re getting too jumpy too soon, as usual.” a familiar voice said nonchalantly next to him. Marrok quickly twitched towards the direction of the noise, and to his surprise there stood his brother Jericho. With his pupils the size of the head of a pin, and his orbs widened in shock, Marrok looked face-to-face with his red-eyed sibling Jericho. He had never seen a vision of his past during the day, but greater concerns expelled the thought, as Marrok abruptly stopped prowling to examine this apparition. Thankfully he was seeing Jericho, who was the only brother he ever felt related to, and the only one he even resembled. Jericho was an evil looking clone version of Marrok, with the same mixed Husky coat look and luscious tail. All he could do was stare into the now smirking face of Jericho. Not even another word was exchanged between the two. Marrok remained frozen, unable to unfixate himself from such a rare sighting. Finally, the image flashed away in a clouded mist before he could even let himself react. As he stared at the empty space where Jericho had once occupied, Marrok whispered to himself, “No…” Yet the scene around him was much quieter than he had thought, and the word nearly echoed around the two wolves. He only glanced back at Isis for a moment, still flustered from the image of his memories that had projected in front of his very eyes. The entire event hampered his momentum, and even crippled his drive to go on, despite the stench of reality flowing around his chilled body. The time was ticking, and he had to do something hastily or risk losing an easy break. Nails now digging hard into the dirt, his breaths became more heavy. He at last looked all the way back to Isis, psyching himself into his "hunting mode" again. “Let’s get this over with.” He jogged forward, gaining ground quicker than he could realize. His vision tunneled as the environment in his peripherals completely disappeared. The scent had not escaped much farther away, even with Marrok’s minor setback. Once again, the smell was intoxicating beyond anything else he could imagine, warming his body with a feverish energy. He had gone farther than he thought and in an instant was brought to a dead halt. The only part of his body that moved was his ears, twitching back and forth as they gathered in the sounds of the environment around. Marrok had very suddenly come within 30 meters of a tall, dark brown, slow moving mass, unaware of his presence.

The white femme waited patiently, even though her senses ran through her like a thousand cold knives. She could still hear the voices of her sister and grandmother, ringing in her head like they were in her presence, but soon enough, the soft, silky voices of her beloved family faded away, and she could only hear small, short whispers. But the scent of the red water still infested her nose like vines wrapped around a tree, consuming her normal senses and twisting it until it was stronger. She looked over at Marrok, who looked just as restless as her, but his head was faced elsewhere. The scent was clearly right in front of them, slowly growing less strong as they waited, Isis waited for his move, but the brute was frozen in his place, staring at nothingness. The spit fire she wolf in her wanted to snarl at her ally and sprint after the prey herself, but her maturity kept her planted. Isis looked at his direction, she saw only a vast forest, nothing more,"Is he okay?"She thought quickly. Just then, she remembered her dreadful scene at the spring, when the chilling og her spine and grave silence worried her new found ally, she thought that maybe he wasn't as sturdy as she thought he was. Something inside him might have been broken, but she intended not to get on his bad side, she still was smaller and less fit than him, so she tried not to be in the situation the sparrow was in that morning.

The female guessed that maybe he was thinking of something, or perhaps he had heard something when she was deaf with the voices in her head.

Suddenly, Marrok broke from his mis-placed direction and turned back to the scent that had faded slightly. He gestured her forward and began to swiftly move across the forest, and closer to the scent. Isis followed a little to the side and with her ears pinned to her skull to keep herself from being seen. She had much trouble with her coat since she no longer lived in the snow capped mountains of her old home, and being in the earthy environment just made it three times as hard. But her mind was not focused on her glossy pelt, because with every step the scent of metallic blood grew, so did her ravenous hunger. The she wolf then spotted the tall creature in her sights, and the smell of enriching blood and fresh cut flesh had been at its strongest. She opened her jaws, and drops of saliva came from her glittering teeth, they were followed by low and menacing snarls, her pupils shrunk to minuscule size, and her legs sprinted after the bleeding animal. And within her wolf hunger, and feirce manners, she restlessly waited for Marrok to strike at the creature, and begin the mauling.

Shelter for a stranger - Page 2 Marrok11

Marrok had pretty much known Isis was a little freaked at his behavior, but his mind was focused on hunting, not reality. Stuck stiff as to not make any sudden movements while this close, he only looked back to Isis with his cold eyes. He gave a slight nod for initiation, and with that, an attempt at slaughter would begin.

Looking straight at the hind of the creature, he prepared to jump. Marrok had much less enjoyment before trying to kill something. Hunting was his original role in life, and it had become completely second nature. The experience lost its flare for him, but that never meant he would stop doing it. Moist fumes exited his nostrils, and in an instant a blend of technique and caged rage broke out. Springing high in the air over the animal, Marrok let out a large, gaping snarl that alerted the creature to watch its own death unfold. Moose. Marrok could now see he was jumping onto a young bull Moose in solitary. Now descending from a long hang time, his pads braced for impact on top of the moose’s back, yet his head leaned forward, aiming for the animal’s broad, unprotected neck. With his head seeming to make first impact, his ivory fangs dug straight through its layers of fur and skin with ease. It was in the same moment that he could taste its blood, as he felt his canines pierce through the jugular vein. Sweet, sweet blood that began to splatter all over his black and white face, forcing him to close his eyes in both protecting them and in pleasure. As his front and hind legs stapled hard down upon the animal’s back, he could feel the body cripple downward a little under his weight. The moose’s injury handicapped it more than it already was. Marrok and only slightly twisted its neck, and knew the animal was only paralyzed in its neck and not its entire 1,000 pound body. It would be an easier kill once on the ground, so now it was Isis’s duty to take out the moose’s legs or another part of its loosening body.

Isis took tot he gesture quickly and shot out like a rocket, she knew and reminded herslef that she was rusty, and wasn't used to hunting with only two but she made due with it. The she wolf darted out to it back legs and snapped ehr jaws to ensure a nasty bite. She took hold of its legs and quickly sunk her teeth, she pulled back and felt it snap, she knew it was broken when the animla cried out in pain. Then, with a blood stianed maw, she looked up to see the antlers of a young moose, her eyes widened, she had never hunted a moose before and it was so big, a thrash of fear ran to her, it was huge."And I broke it's leg?!"she thought rapidly, trying to keep her focus on the moose and the hunt. She ran to its side and noticed that it was limping from its broken leg and was tipping over on the side she was running on. But she knew it could still be running, even if it was slow, she wanted him on the ground. Then she looked up and saw Marrok biting fiercely into its throat, and she could practically feel the nerves in the moose neck freezing like ice. Her face cringed, that must have been painful, but something told her that she was thinking too much and it was her job to finish him. She looked towards the front leg, its hooves beating on the strong earth, the only thing besides the other legs that were keeping it going. Suddenly, she could hear nothing but its beating drum, it sound mocking her hunger, and the new blood coloring her white face. She growled and kept looking at the leg, keeping focus, she was in sync, following its beat.

Then, Isis opened her jaws and dived in, grabbing the leg in mid run and thrashing back her head with such power, with such instinct, that the entire limb tore off, making a splatter of blood spur out. Isis stopped her run, skidding a little forward from her speed, and watched as the deer quickly followed by falling hopelessly to the ground in a heavy heap.

Shelter for a stranger - Page 2 Marrok11

Marrok was basically being taken along for the ride, as the bull moose had proceeded to attempt escape. It was unaware of the other wolf pursuing it. Marrok’s ivories clamped tightly into the neck flesh of the creature, unmoving and acting as the roots that held him down close to the prey’s body, as it continued to spew blood into his face. He was unable to see Isis below him, but he could sense her presence once the moose began to cry even louder in pain. The sound of an immense crack seemed to be what was the source of the animal’s dying pain, and the sounds of small pops and crackles filled the air as the moose now slowed more to a hobbled jog. Bone fracture most likely. Still blind to what was happening, Marrok could now isolate the noise of Isis’s panting as she positioned herself for another strike. This time, he heard her inhale, and a great force rammed the side of the moose along with the sound of a blood-curdling tear. It had no effect on Marrok, who still dangled on the moose’s back, but he now suddenly felt its body dropping awkwardly. He quickly unhinged himself from the fragmented flesh and push off the body, rolling softly beside the collapsing being. Springing up swiftly, Marrok gathered himself and looked over the body. He could not believe his eyes. It had a bloody stump where it should have possessed a leg limb. And this was Isis’s doing! An entire leg! Gone! The momentum of the moose and Isis’s contradicting force was most likely the only reason it happened, but very impressive for a “newbie” nevertheless. He looked over to her about to give a bit of a compliment when he was surprisingly interrupted by what he thought was a corpse. The moose lay in a bloody heap, somehow moaning its last words in intense agony. Though incapacitated, he lazily attempted to kick its remaining three legs, but struggled to barely lift them off the earth. The bull was young, yet Marrok still felt no remorse. He had hunger of his own to feed. His face completely hidden under a camouflage of red gore, he exhaled deeply, his cold orbs blinking slowly as he stared back into the animal’s chestnut pools. In one great, hard motion, he clasped the neck and ripped violently to one side. The moaning stopped, and he felt the life leave its body, turning it to a cadaver.

Now sure of its death, he looked up at Isis standing next to him. “Nice job. Going to be some work for you dragging it with me, but there should be some tributaries ahead if I'm right where we can rest.” He paused. The hunt had only lasted minutes, and yet reaped in great reward. The taste of blood on his black lips was already becoming sour, and the excitement burned out slowly like a dying candle. “I should probably bathe,” he chuckled, realizing his entire head was thick crimson red, making him look like a completely different wolf. “I kind of like it,” he said, reaching down to pick up the heavier hind end of the moose. He directed with his maw to move forward with the body.

Isis stood sliently, only for a mement though, because after she spat out the limb, it hit the earth loudly and made her loose her long stare at the now menaing body of the moose. She watched hungrily as Marrok quickly snapped the neck of their prey, and then she realized, she had torn off an entire limb! She looked at the bloody nub that used to have a leg attached to it, she stepped back and looked at Marrok with disbelief."Did i do that?!"she gasped as her eyes turned back at the bloody corpse. She was surprised, Isis might have not been as rusty as she thought she would be, she proabably was better than she ever was, she walked towards the moose, its face frozen in its last remorse. She sniffed the leg, she could smell her scent masked behind massive blood. She looked up,"I- I never knew i could do that"she admitted,"I mean, i don't usually do that kind of slaughter". The she wolf looked at the corpse once more, she knew she couldn't take back what she had done, and she didn't want to, it was impressive and a spark of pride came to her for the first time. She never felt so satisfied with her work, she she perked her ears and looked back up at Marrok who had already picked up on the grave situation.

Her face lightened,
"Yeah, i should prabably wash up too!"she giggled as she remembered her blood stained mouth. She stood up and shook her fur for no apparent reason, maybe to shake off the awkward scene, then she turned to Marrok who had the heavy side of moose in his jaws. She smiled and picked up the other side, meeting his work at the same rate, making the effort even.

Shelter for a stranger - Page 2 Marrok11
As Isis picked up the other end of the moose corpse and began to walk in sync, Marrok could tell she probably felt just as afraid as satisfied. The good news was she had done something she never foresaw, but this was also the bad news. The bloody limb was being left behind, which should hopefully signify that she would get over it eventually. The streams Marrok thought would be ahead of them turned out to only be about a half mile from the kill sight over easy terrain. He thought it strange that they could not hear the running water from where they had been. Regardless, he was happy to know that they did not need to move such a large, heavy body very far and they had a place to stay for the night. Dropping his end of the moose, he surveyed the area. The slow moving crystal blue liquid ran over rocks into a larger, deeper pool. “I can wait a few minutes for a meal. I don’t know about you, but…” His eyes remained glued to the larger pool of water. It should be perfect for swimming, he thought, since it doesn’t come in contact with the water before the rocks. That could be reserved for drinking. Taking a couple steps backward, he dove head first into the sparkling water. He slowly resurfaced, letting the cool liquid do its work on his tired body. He whipped his head quickly, spraying water all around him. His face dripped with crimson like a smeared painting, and small slivers began to disperse in the large pool. “Come on. Don’t mind the blood, we’re both covered. And I don’t bite. There’s plenty of room.” Marrok continued to paddle a little, more relaxed than he had been in some time. He had plans for their next move of action, but for now he let the evening air coax him.

Isis carried the meal with Marrok, their strength together made the lift easier. The white femme however, felt dingry and unfit with bright blood covering her maw. She fancied a cool wash, and when she heard the bubbling hum of cold river water, her eyes lit up with excitement. They approached the bank and Isis spat out the meat gently, then when Marrok gestured toward the water and dived right in, a small splash of water swept over her. She laughed, the water felt just right, and when Marrok invited her in, she gave no hesitation and jumped in with excitment. She sunk little ways into the water and felt the refrehment consume her, then she swam up for air, she nose brekaing the soft barrier that let her breathe sweet air. She sighed in satifaction and swam with her muzzle halfway in the water to clean her blood stained mouth. She looked as the water was faintly colored red, and traces of leftover blood disppeared down the current, she smiled and looked at Marrok as his silver jaws returned once again. She felt refreshed, her energy felt refilled, and her blue eyes seemed to match the crystal water as she gently paddled through it. She looked at Marrok, who was silently enjoying his swim. Isis grinned, and swam little ways towards him. She swam quietly through the water, her nose dipped underneath so that he couldn't hear her breathing. Isis then dunked underwater and waited a dew seconds until she though he was looking for her, the white femme suddenly then burst out of the water and tried to give him a fright.

She gave a playful smirk and used her paw to splash him for revenge.
"Splash!"she laughed, and then began heading towards the bank before she was splashed in return.

Shelter for a stranger - Page 2 Marrok11

Marrok saw Isis was ready to jump on the idea of entering the water. Cool mist spattered up, as now both of them paddled through the luke-warm liquid. Marrok chuckled a little at the sight of her running in, as he waded in circles. He viciously shook his maw in the water in attempt to soak off the now darkened and dried blood, but it hardly made a dent in the damage. Sighing, he dipped himself underwater for a long time, allowing the crystal blue fluid to distill the caked crimson splatter on his face. Finally, after patiently sitting at the bottom for some time, Marrok sprung up, delighted to see and feel the blood running down his maw onto his chest and into the water. Eyes still squinting from the bloody water, he watched as the scarlet finally began to wash down the current into other streams below. After a few moments he also noticed another thing: he was alone in the water. He turned to the moose, then back to the water surrounding him, still without seeing Isis. His puzzlement wouldn’t last very long, as suddenly the foundation beneath him erupted, as the white femme splashed up out from under water. Marrok’s eyes greatly widened, but he didn’t even move. That is, until he felt a wave of liquid smack across his face. Blinking his eyes and twitching his ears, he now had a face of playful revenge. “So that’s how it’s going to be,” he tried to roar without laughing, as Isis already was halfway out of the water over by the bank. He tried to generate as much water as he could, closing in on her position. Leaping up, he sent a massive monsoon towards the bank. Now within a few feet, he tried to grab her and pull her back into the water, but failed. Marrok now stood half perched against the bank, half in the water, breathing heavy with excitement. “Well that didn’t last very long.” Pausing, he looked towards the moose body. “Ladies first?” he questioned, as he pulled now his entire body up onto the bank. He quickly shook himself out starting from head to tail. He figured he’d follow close behind, but let her have first strike. Otherwise, he knew he would end up eating much more than his “fair share”.

Isis walked out of the water, her white fur dripping with the water that cleansed her. She shook herself and then turned towards the fresh kill. She smiled as she heard Marrok trying to splash her back, but failing in the process. She watcehd patiently as the brute walekd from the pool and dried himself by shaking. When he gestured her to take the first pick, she flicked ehr ears forward, and then looked back at the three-legged carcess. She wanted to geture him instead but, the emptynes in ehr stomach made her refuse and she warmly smiled, "Thank you" The femme walked over towards the kill, the blood seemed to lure her in as she approached it. Her mouth watered and she looked at it with hunger for only a few seconds before ripping into it. As a wolf, it was her given right to eat like one, even if she was a female. She always remembered to eat her share and to keep good manners, but she didn't hesitate like an omega. She swallowed her first bite and the empty hole in her stomach seemed to sub side for a moment, though she craved more, she looked up at Marrok and invited him to eat by moving to the side and swiveling her ears back and forth. It was the way her former pack taught her, she hoped Marrok would get the idea. She waited for him to approach it, and then tore back into her share of meat.

Shelter for a stranger - Page 2 Marrok11

Though the water had felt cool enough, Marrok still craved more for himself. Marrok slowly trekked to the designated drinking stream, never letting his icy orbs leave the equally cold reflection of himself in the shinning pool. Bending his neck low, he took his time and embraced lap after lap of refreshing water. It had only been a few moments when he glanced back at Isis without retracting his head from the water, noticing that she had moved over to the side of the carcass, giving an invitation to dig in. Marrok quickly withdrew his pink tongue and headed right back to where he had been before, moving towards the bull moose and giving a silent nod. Now looming over the bloody, wire fur pelt of the kill, Marrok looked from end to end, inspecting where to begin first. Spotting a peculiar patch of meat, Marrok lunged at his meal and began to tear the flesh to pieces. Manners didn’t really matter. Manners actually never mannered. Things would have looked much more subtle had he not tried to eat so quickly. It wasn’t messy; just feverish. Each bite became less and less of a gaping gulp, but it was evident he was hungry. He had just cleansed his body, yet now his fangs were staining red from such a massive and fairly recent kill. The rest of his senses were unable to catch up to his effort to feed his body. Most of the meat went to him tastelessly, and the progress was surprisingly closing in on the bone.

Marrok was still able to restrain himself from devouring his whole half so quickly. There were no predators here (or at least anything with the guts to steal from a wolf,) and there would be plenty of time tomorrow to finish the feast. Marrok lifted his head a few degrees, inhaling as his filled stomach warmed his entire chest. He turned to Isis. It was late, though he wanted to pitch out another piece of his ongoing plan. “So, this sort of concludes our second day. There’s plenty of time to move onward, but I don’t know what resources are ahead, or where we are going…I had an idea of where we should go, though...To the south is Midnight Meadows. It’s away from my home, it’s away from your home, and I believe the alpha is a wolf by the name of Rodion. The pack is tame; pure. A change in lineup for me. Perfect.” He sighed. “There are other options but…I guess it doesn’t matter to me nearly as much.” In the back of his mind, he silently thought about his words. He had become something far from himself: purity. And he intended to develop that something he thought he never possessed. Marrok remained looking into Isis’s orbs, awaiting a response.

Isis quickly finished her meal, leaving her freshly cleaned coat, bloody again. Not as much as the last time but, with a fair pelt, it was completely noticeable. She sighed with a full belly, the stitch in her side making her want to rest, but the feverish need to wash herself made her go forward. She walked towards the water, dipping her muzzle in, and cleaning her white fur once again. She listened as Marrok explain his game plan. The thought of pure made her think again, was she pure, was she even worthy to be called that? Isis questioned this to herself from time to time, but never tried to rethink it in her dreams. She liked his knowledge, and found no faults in his theory, in other words, she agreed with him. Besides, coming far away from her home would be better, but the longing to see her homeland would rise in her again one day, and she knew it. She finally finished her wash, and lifted her head to shake, wet drops of water escaped her fur, and let her be dry. She then turned to Marrok, who was silently waiting a response,"I agree,I don't really care how far away our old homes are, just as long as I'm in a good pack"she said bluntly, explainign her wishes throughly"Thank you for helping me out again, I really appreciate it"she repeated again, almost bending her dignity for another thank you for his kindness, but this time, it was more independent. Maybe she wasn't as helpless as she thought she was.

Shelter for a stranger - Page 2 Marrok11

Marrok listened to her wishes as she began to return from the wash pool. Her maw still dripped a little from the rich liquid. His ears flicked. “Okay. Things are a little settled now.” Isis also continued with an appreciative thank you. “No problem. We're striving for the same goal, aren't we? We're a team practically.” He now looked down at his white paws, contrasting from the vivid texture of the earth. He couldn’t tell if she was becoming closer to him or further away. The thank you’s were definitely a nice gesture, but deep down he believed she still had distrust, which he didn’t blame her for. He could try for the rest of his life to fit in as a stable, model member of society; he could fill himself with goodness and please everyone that surrounded him, but inside deep inside he would always have a part of him that was messed up and distorted, whether he liked so or not. It wasn’t his fault, really. He was the only one that ever cared about himself and where he went, while his father and his pack pitted against any action that could be taken as “weak”, and that was all that mattered. Refocusing, he gave a wide yawn and a slight stretch onto his haunches. He had not even noticed how fatigued he felt until now. He couldn’t wait till tomorrow; he couldn’t wait to finally be there. For the moment, however, he was left with nothing to do.

Isis smiled at his claim of teamwork. She happily answered him"Yeah, I suppose we are!"and walked towards the area he began to fall in. She sat little ways from him, and shared the moment of pure tiredness by letting out a small yawn and swiveling her ears around as she slumped down to the ground. She felt more welcome with Marrok than she had ever been. Like they had known each other for years instead of days. She wondered how their new life would play out, she could faintly see the welcoming faces, and happy barks to welcome both her and Marrok to the pack. She wondered what her role would be, depending on what she was good for. And it tickled her to know, that by the time they were there, no one would know Marrok better than her, and no one would know Isis better than Marrok. She liked the word team, it seemed that, for as long as they lived, her and Marrok would be close allies, and truly she hoped to keep it that way. She stayed up for a long time, thinking about the future to come. She even had a stream of thoughts, about the possibility of finding a mate when she got there. She was still young, and it would have brought her grandmother great pleasure if she bore pups in the season to come. She smiled at the thought of the small and plump pups rolling around in the den she bore them in. She truly was excited to be welcomed into society, and to start out a fresh new life.

Shelter for a stranger - Page 2 Marrok11

Darkness had ensued far faster than Marrok anticipated. Laying on his stomach with his chest up, he looked straight up into the night sky. It was different than usual; the slight details about it changed. The small starry night had become more of vast sheets of black and gray, bottled up just enough to fit the background. A deep purple stream sat on top of the horizon, barely making its way through the thickness of tree and vegetation. Marrok was tempted to let out a howl, but he wouldn’t do something so foolish as to attract unwanted attention. But still, he just had the strangest desire to do so; to let go. He just felt the need to forget everything he had just questioned about himself: the past, the nightmares, the distantness. Disregarding it would be the best and probably the only thing he could do about it. But if anyone ever tried to harm him, or Isis, he would stay sure to use every fiber of his being to expel the antagonist force, even if it meant utilizing the horrors of his past. He had to limit his blood-thirstiness before he thought of kicking the addiction for good; it was the only way it could work. Forgetting then had never worked before, but at least he now had some full-proof support from a close friend. Of course, this whole little plan was a fatigue-induced, scatterbrained thought that he had already gone over; but if he actually put effort to focus on “the now”, he would be able to get everything he ever wanted. A home, a family, a life. Marrok finally stood on his paws and slowly walked over towards Isis. He sat back down with his head on his paws less than a foot away from her. He shut his piercing blue eyes, saying with his eyes closed, “I need some sleep.” With that short note, he fell silent, stretching his pillars out to full length and letting his being relax. He planned to wake himself up early at daybreak, and he felt a little more confidence that his nightmares would lessen.

PostSubject: Re: Shelter for a stranger   Shelter for a stranger - Page 2 Icon_minitimeSat Jul 09, 2011 3:30 am

Isis soon found herself with closed tired eyes, and a hunger to sleep. She smiled as she fell into slumber, and slowly began to dream.

The she wolf dreamed slowly, as if the whole world was floating on air. Around her she could hear voices, they were soft, and seemed friendly, but she could not see any faces, only a certain brightness that bothered her eyes. And as the voices progressed to speak to her, she noticed that, they were not inviting, and with second they grew louder,
and more cold. Suddenly, the brightness faded, and she found herself surrounded in pure darkness. The voices were clear now, and were snarling awful and sharp words to her ears. She tried to scream, but it was only lost in an ocean of growls. The world she was dreaming in seemed to shrink, and shadows of furious voids began to hover over her. And the pressure grew, so did a hell like flame, and Isis found herself at the mouth of spitting sparks. She panicked, and tried to escape, but suddenly, she could see a lake behind her, a safe haven to save her from being consumed. But before she could run, a loud yelp trailed form behind her. And alas, her sister lay there trapped under a fallen tree, her face in peril and her mouth letting out screams of pain. Isis began to run towards her, but an enormous wall of flames came out in front of her, and pushed her back. She began to fall, but instead of hitting solid ground, she kept falling, falling, and falliing. And eternity of regret pushed her down, and making her twist and turn in endless pain. And as she fell, the voices rang in her ears even louder, until they were so loud it almost seemed like they were in her head. And suddenly a loud burst of yelling called out her name "ISIS!" it screamed

"GAH!" Isis gasped as she awoke frightfully from sleep. The she wolf panted in fear, her head pounded with so many thoughts, that she could not even hear one. She looked around, and began to find comfort int he fact that she had returned to reality. The environment began to come into focus, and the she wolf began to catch her breath. But in her relief, she had realized that her dreams had returned, she laid her head on her paws and began to silently cry. She felt the warm tears trickle down her face, as her mind buzzed around the memory of her sister. The wolf had truly believed that her life was beginning to lighten up, but alas, the dreams that had haunted her before had returned once again. Isis tried to pick herself up before she awakened Marrok, who she guessed was sound asleep. She turned over, and looked at husky masked wolf. He seemed to be dreaming soundly, his face though was stuck in a deep frown that seemed not to relax. She laid there for a second and watched his calmness, she knew that she had slept like that on a regular basis once, but now it was rare. She noticed his strong physic, the strong shoulders that supported his long back. She began to feel a little safer as she watched him sleep. She had never done this before, but had suddenly created an interest in him. The she wolf felt a comfort towards him, and scooted closer to feel more secure. She smiled a bit, and set her head down, making sure that it faced the other way. She looked out towards the grass, the new moon seemed to show no hope for her, but with her security in Marrok, she felt as if nothing could touch her. Isis slowly began to feel a drift of sleepiness, and she once again closed her icy eyes, hoping that this time, her dreams would be sweeter

Marrok slept more soundly than he could have ever pictured. Though not truely awake, he was concious of his surrondings. He felt his lungs slowly expand and contract against the warm earth beneath him. His fur quivered a bit with gusts of breeze that routinly funneled through the trees and canopies to his position on the ground, a static tingle moving up the length of his spine. The current of water in the stream lightly flowed over rocks and pebbles, pressing their weight to the bottom of the now frigid-cold pool. He had never been more relaxed in his life, no matter what he previously experienced. It was almost blissful; a satisfaction he couldn't describe for something so simple. He had no actual dreams in this subconsious, only his thoughts. I'm praying to Gods now. I want to see things go my way. I want to watch it all go down. I want to watch it flush away. In his sleep, he could have sworn he might of heard yipes in the night, maybe even a gasp or something. The area only seemed to hold the presence of him and Isis, and he was afraid of waking her. Thus, he drifted back into his slumber, toning out the pitch-black midnight.

When he awoke, it was clear the morning was young, as he had hoped. The sun was nowhere near creeping over the tall forest trees. There were not even bird calls being made at this hour, yet somehow the sky held a unique tinge of warm colors. Marrok looked about, making sure everything was unaltered and as it was the night before. Isis still slept silently, her shallow breaths the only noise in the air as it seemed. Knowing everything was in adequate condition, he had the impulsive thought to find an easy meal. He remembered how long the stream probably stretched and the potential of fish being in the upper banks. Slowly, he strolled uphill through open vegetation, though as he kept looking through the clear liquid, there seemed to be no significant life. When he returned, nothing had moved, not even the painted sky. If he was going to look any further for something, he didn't want to do it while Isis was unaware, in case she were to wake up without him being there. Looking down at her body, he whispered. "Isis....Isis...ISIS..." He didn't detect any movement from her, and she still appeared to be in deep sleep. "Wonderful..." He wanted to wake her up, but how? It's not like he wanted to nudge or hit her. He wasn't going to splash her. There wasn't much else he could do. He thought for a quick second, even almost began to pace. Today would be another big day, and they had to get up sooner or later. I hope I won't have to regret this, he thought. Bowing his head close to the ground above the she wolf, he let his pink tongue peek out of his mouth and gave one light lick near her maw, backing away after. From the beginning, he thought Isis was for whatever reason special to him, but he didn't know if it was this kind of feeling, or if this could make or brake their friendship. He decided to just stand and wait.

Isis slowly opened her eyes, she could barely feel the tender touch of a lick open her maw and then she looked up. Marrok stood in front of her with a sort of unsure look. And it had seemed that it come to the point where Marrok had to gently awaken her, and a sudden smile came to her face in knowing that he was gentle one. She stood up and yawned, her eyes though still felt weary, and the sudden memory of the nightmare came to her, making the smile melt. She kept her eyes on Marrok though, and tried to make it seem that everything was fine"Good morning"she said softly, as she walked a little towards him and tried to smile. She passed him, and went to drink from the river, bending down and taking a few licks. Then she looked forwards, licking her chops and scoping the landscape before her. She watched as the gentle river, moved saintly through its current. She sighed and tried to forget her nightmare before, but soon enough as she looked closer into the river, she could see a reflection. Her widened and quickly moved up, looking at a fallen tree that had been scorched by an old fire. The she wolf tried to contain her memrory, but instead saw the horrid flash of her nightmare. A sick feeling pressed on her heart, and a tear dripped silently on her face. When she opened her eyes, she tried to pick herself up again, hoping that Marrok never saw her cry. She tried to use a happy tone, but had more a nervous and tired voice"So, shall we get going?"she asked before turning around, and creating a sincere smile that tried to hide her pain.

When she finally did awaken and greet him with a smile, Marrok felt relieved that she was fine with what he did. He was so worried of possible consequences from doing it that he now realized the action was not something too odd or out of oridinary. It wouldn't have been the first time he managed to surprise Isis in the few days he had known her. Watching as she passed him and walked to the stream behind him for a drink. he sat back on his haunches patiently. He had already hydrated himself while looking for fish in the upper banks earlier, though now the environment seemed to completely shift from which it was. It had only been around an hour since he awoke, yet the sky had morphed into a solid blue hue, the sun now shining between the darkness of the deep wilderness. After a while bending down at the water, Isis returned back to face him, questioning if they would be leaving. Before he could let words leave his mouth, he undeniably noticed the tired tone in her lyrics. He could even see the abnormal emotion in her orbs, which to him seemed dulled of color; like an artificial expression. He figured it had to be just fatigue from recently waking up. In his head, he hoped it was not a serious problem she intended to cover up. He didn't want her to hide whatever she might be experiencing. "The sooner the better." he answer her. "We'll hopefully find something along the way to eat. For now, we just need to stick close. We actually made more progress yesterday than I thought, and this forest might turn into even more desolete terrain quickly." Marrok assumed they were ready to start moving, turning and beginning to walk through the South trees.

"Alrighty then" she answered as she walked towards Marrok with a sort of nervous pace. A thought crossed her mind about telling Marrok about her nightmare. But as she looked at his serious expression, she rather thought this wasn't the time. She knew that it was better if the day didn't start out with her drama, she wanted to make him feel comfortable, and not to be twisted into her past. So she followed him upstream, where the forest seemed to have more shade, to were only specks of sunlight seemed to flood the forest floor. She tried to distract herself, by trying to sniff out some prey. After her enormous and impressive stunt she did yesterday, she hoped to keep her judgement that way. But with every sniff that came up empty, questions kept popping into her head about the nightmare. So she decided, if she was to be thinking of questions as they walked, this would be a perfect time to learn more about her traveling companion. She also knew it would be a perfect way to distract her pain."So, Marrok, i just wanted to know, umn a little more about you and uh. Maybe where exactly you came from, i mean i just wanna know"Isis found herself a little nervous since she knew he was sort of a serious wolf and that maybe asking about him would make him mad. But she just silently waited for a response, hoping that he wouldn't be insulted.

Marrok kept close to the riverside, nearly at the edge of its small embankment. The forest seemed to grip around the group tighter and tighter as they moved along, keeping decent pace. Marrok was distracted by his own thoughts, yet still able to keep good footing and avoid hazards without truly paying attention to them. It had been a little while when Isis finally broke the quietness between the two with her question about his background. He was kind of confused by her inquiry. He had expected it to come up eventually down the road, even though nobody had ever brought it up with him before. Nobody had ever cared about his past. Then again, nobody had traveled in a tight-knit group with him on a journey such as this one either. The question didn’t anger him; it just seemed…odd in his eyes. He lifted his head from its blank stare, looking straight ahead while he spoke. “Well…”, he began nonchalantly, trying to assemble the right words to say in his mind. “I’m from the middle of nowhere. I lived in the Northwest outskirts of the arctic, between the Muerta Mountains pack lands and the Lone Lands. Our home was a much smaller mountain range than our Muerta neighbors…unbelievably cold there…and isolated…Our pack was set up in a more uncommon format than most. Each member held one duty, and was completely responsible for that job for the majority of their life. I was next in line to become the pack Hunter. I would have to supply all meat for everyone in the group. I even started rigorous training, but that never had the chance to pan out. There was civil war between the new generation and the old. Changes to our way of life were needed, but all anyone did was fight. Things were escalating, and next would be bloodshed. I couldn’t do anything to help, so I just left. Plain and simple. It was completely unheard of though: for someone to just one day get and abandon the pack. There would be nowhere to go for me. The only ones at this point that cared for my sake were my three brothers: Jericho, Cobranq, and Pyramus. Not even my parents had much concern; it was my choice. Jericho was basically my twin, Cobranq was, well, just a little strange, and Pyramus was a kind soul for someone that belonged to an antisocial pack. I looked all three of them dead in the face the last day I was there, and left without a word. I went down our mountain into an unforgiving snowstorm, and I never saw them again. So…yeah.” He stayed silent for a few moments. He wanted to be sure Isis had heard everything she wanted to know.

Isis listened carefully as he explained, but truthfully her eyes were somewhat lost. As they walked along the riverside, she could feel a twist in her stomach that didn't feel right. And even though she had half her mind on Marrok, the other half was watching around her. As the slight brush of wind pushed the current of the river beside them, and made the trees rustle with loud whispers. She almost felt serene, but on the other hand, a little disturbed, many things were on her mind, but the quietness of the forest was the one that kept her from paying full attention to anything else. When he finished, she tried to calculate her answer, trying to remember the names he had told her."Wow, so you have three brothers? Where do you think they are now? Do you think that maybe they are around here?"She asked as the light seeping from the treetops seemed to fade. She knew the clouds above were moving, but hopefully not to show a sign of rain. The she wolf looked around herself, and began to notice a strange scent. Although she had never smelled fish very often, she knew what it smelled like. Ans as the scent grew, she tried to convince herself that her mind was playing tricks. But when she got a good whiff of the air, mixed with the scent of water and fish, Isis could swear that the scent of another wolf was nearby.

She knew that other wolves were around here and it was probably just the old scent of other canines. But it seemed that only in certain places was the scent strong, and weak, as if this wolf was on a twisted path, even though it was straight. Like it was making circles around them, without being seen. And to make the matters worse, somehow this scent was oddly familiar.

Shelter for a stranger - Page 2 Empty
PostSubject: Re: Shelter for a stranger   Shelter for a stranger - Page 2 Icon_minitimeFri Jul 22, 2011 3:46 pm

Marrok was silent after his recount about his past. Isis quickly asked about if he knew where his siblings might. Honestly, he had no clue. It had been so long that they could be potentially anywhere. They could’ve joined a new pack. They could’ve lost their way and remained alone all this time. They could be dead. He turned around to Isis behind him, but before he could give an answer, he noticed something. Isis appeared to be thinking something over, like thoughts were unfolding; like something was wrong. The scenery around them continued to darken and darken, to the point where light had been defeated and the nature around them formed a dimness of its own. An abnormal scent suddenly flickered over his nostrils. He began to slow down. Its thick musk, combined with what seemed to be fish, reminded him of something: home. It could be what Isis was pondering over, but he was unsure. A smirk was close to playing upon his face at the thought of this mystery scent transporting him back to memories of home. He quickly realized the scent might be more than a coincidence, as he looked straight ahead now almost with alarm. He forced himself to stop. “I think something is with us…”, he whispered back to Isis. The scent now seemed to hover directly in front of them, not wanting to leave. It smelled stronger than ever. Marrok’s eyes narrowed slightly. “No…it can’t be.” “Oh, but it is,” a voice directly on top of them mirrored back. Suddenly, a fast moving blur of color sprung from the brush, tackling Marrok into darkness. Neither Marrok nor the figure could be seen at first, as the two sounded like they were fiercely fighting within the trees. After a short moment, a black and white hued wolf emerged. Its appearance looked nearly like a Husky’s, exactly like Marrok, but its deep blood red eyes were much different then Marrok’s blue hues. The sinister looking orbs looked towards Isis, and the wolf smiled. “Well, who might this be?” he said. Just then, the real Marrok jumped from the shadows, pinning the other wolf to the ground. “You stay the heck away from her!” Marrok stood over the other wolf’s body, glaring at him face-to-face. The other wolf chuckled. “Aww, what? After all this time you didn’t miss me? This is the welcome I get?” Marrok thought back to his past, all the times he thought about his family, and the recent vision he had of this wolf while hunting with Isis. “…I did miss you. But you’re here now, Jericho. And I don’t have much sympathy for you. Especially with this little entrance you made. Speaking of which, why are you here?” “Same reason you are: to get away.” Jericho replied. “I’m sure.” Marrok mumbled sarcastically, letting his brother up, but not letting his cold look leave his maw. Jericho glanced at Isis. “She’s quiet. Bet she likes me more than you do right now. And she doesn’t even know me. What does that say to you, brother?” Both wolves fell silent, looking over to Isis.

Isis froze when when the other wolf bounded out towards Marrok. Inside her she wanted to help, but she still was stuck with fear like a little fawn. She fell silent when the crimson eyes wolf looked at her, his eyes seemed to stare right into her soul. And as they talked, she had half a mind to run, to run from the fear, like she had before. But something in her made her stay, and watch frightfully as the twins talked. She really wasn't listening, mostly just looking at the both of them with confusion. She did though, hear the sharp cuff of defense from Marrok that made her feel a little more on the safe side, but still she was wary. And when the other wolf mentioned her, she felt a flame of spite towards him, already he seemed bad spirited. It was true that she didn't know him, but she didn't enjoy his presence any more than Marrok did, just because of his entry. She didn't know why, but she also felt a little mixed between fright, confusion, and a spot of anger, she couldn't quite explain it. Suddenly both their eyes fell on her, and her flaming emotion froze again.

Isis was caught dumbfounded between the looks of the two, her tail slowly lowering back to her graveling submission. Her ears flattened, her eyes moving from one brother to the next, but eventually just rested on Marrok."I-I, don't... understand" her tongue tripped, she couldn't decipher roper words for her reaction. She began to step back a little, not sure of the situation, the temptation to run again came to her side, but she remained. She felt a strong defiance come to her, as if he were her enemy. Her ears perked, and a tail was raised a little. Her icy eyes flickered with a demand for explanation. She gave the look-alike a cold look even a little growl muttered from her teeth and then back at Marrok, like a ceetain cold flame emerged "Marrok?

Marrok’s eyes and ears directed straight at Isis, trying to tone out the figure of his sibling looming next to him. She clearly wanted some answers from the look in her fiery eyes. He tried to look remorseful, as if his devious brother stalking them was an embarrassing accident. His orbs even seemed to dull a bit, as he thought back to harder times. “We went our separate ways for good reason, but he somehow managed to find me. Knowing him, he’s looking for something, and either searched me out to help, or just so happened to come to this forest at the same place and time as we did. Convenient…” Jericho gave a deadly stare, like he wanted to kill something just for the sake of getting a rush from it. “I’m right here,” he said unimpressed. “But I guess this is supposed to go with the ‘tough-guy leader’ look, right? You know, maybe if you hung around long enough, we could’ve stood a chance at unifying everyone for the better. But no. Instead, you ran away with your tail between your legs because things weren’t going like you hoped.” Marrok simply ignored his comments like they weren’t directed at him. The things he had won and lost before didn’t mean anything now. Marrok resumed his explanation to Isis, trying to wrap things up for her. “…And now he probably wants to tag along for his own benefit…What do you think? I can tolerate him, but I don’t know if you want to.” Looking at her for a few seconds in a light-hearted manner, he turned back towards Jericho with a darker tone. “Well, that’s what you want, isn’t it? To follow us?” Jericho glared back with unforgiving crimson glares, halfway between anger and defeat. “I wasn’t trying to cause you trouble. I just need some better guidance until I can go on my own again. I don’t these lands like you do…Where are you even headed, anyway?” Marrok responded in a less antagonizing voice. “Midnight Meadows” Jericho gave a small smirk at the answer. “See, now wouldn’t a third set of eyes and ears pay off on a long journey? Plus, I’ll be out of your hair by the time we arrive there. It’s on the way to where I’m going.” Marrok looked down at the earth slightly. His ears twitched while he thought. Truthfully, he didn’t like him around, but he could help. Each choice had its major pros and cons, but what worried him most was Jericho being around Isis. Jericho wasn’t always the ‘friendliest’ person to be around, but he would still probably be loyal to Marrok’s judgment. Marrok just hoped Isis had a stance on this so they could help or leave Jericho as quickly as possible.

Isis watched closely as the two wolves discussed with each other, but this time with her more included. She saw the want in Marrok's eyes, like he wanted them to leave. She kept looking at Jericho with spite, she could feel malevolence emanating from him, but if he was Marrok's brother she supposed he couldn't be that bad, but still she decided to keep opinions to herself about him. She honestly didn't know anything of what this wolf might do is he tagged along, and even though she was reaching health and could probabaly fight on her own soon, she still felt weak compared to him, just as she did with Marrok. Then the question of toleration came, she knew that she didn't like him already, but never htought that maybe she could stand him. If he was generally harmless she probably could, but she wouldn't trust him ever. She couldn't tell this to Marrok, because even though he seemed anxious to get Jericho to leave, the small part him that cared actually showed through. Isis knew the connection of brother could never be broken, for she used to have two brothers, and she had studied them for a while too. Isis didn't want to get in the middle of it though, so she said," As long as he can keep himself in check, I'm fine, but its mostly your decision Marrok, he's your brother"Isis spoke a little on the strict side, as her eyes moved back to Jericho and his sly grin. Her ears flattened, in her words you could tell she felt a little on the angry side, not only because of Jericho's presence, but because deep inside, she felt a longing to suddenly meet up with her siblings just as Marrok did, but immediately she knew, that would never happen.
