Rodion had just expected them to keep on walking, but before he knew it, a force was taking him down into the river. He let out a playful cry as he and Zelda fell into the waters. His head went under for a moment, and rising with a gasp, a laugh, beautifully carefree burst forth from his throat. He shook the water from his ears and swam towards her. He lashed out with his paws, sending a wave of the autumn-chilled water in her face. It felt so good to have these freedoms again. He was actually having... fun. It had literally been years since the las time he could recall such a thing. The cold water seeped deep into his bones. At first it tensed him, but he soon grew acclimated to its temperature and found the flow of the water rather relaxing. Though he prepared himself for Zelda's next onslaught, he was calm. Perhaps not yet fully at peace, but calm in the face of this newfound self.

He lunged forward through the slow water, grabbing at her with his own heavy paws. He tried to pull at her just as she had dragged him into the water, and was aiming for her scruff, though he couldn't quite reach. Rodion intended to dunk her under and turn the tides in his favor, but the bottom of the river gave beneath his paws and forced him forward instead. With an odd splash, the bru dipped forward and by no will of his own pressed his nose to hers. Immediately he recognized the situation and backed away with an awkward, bashful chuckle. He looked away at the scenery, down to his paws. He tried to keep her gaze for the briefest of seconds but couldn't bring himself to do it. Smiling sheepishly he focused on the water. "Umm..." 'Rodia you klutzy fool!' "Sorry..." He forced himself to look back up at her, and was caught in just staring again, intently, almost intensely, searching for a reaction.

Zelda held the gaze as well and even though he was the one who questioned her gaze she felt something in her shift and if she found herself looking away first. There was something in Rodion's gaze that sort of unnerved her. When he touched her forehead despite the physical advance she felt that strange moment broken and she looked up to the skies and blinked at the rain. Laughing at his comment she eyed him and as he brushed her to lead her she took the opportunity where he wasn't looking at her and pounced on him! Wrapping her paws around his bulk she pulled him into the river where she fell in with a splash, flipping back up she shook her pelt sending water everywhere she laughed. So much for not getting soaked. Eyes gleaming she looked at Rodion wondering how he would take her sneak attack. It was the sort of thing that happened after disasters like the bodies defense mechanism to all the sadness. The sudden break in emotions, the rush of unexplained joy. She felt giddy but knew her body was so tired that she would pass the moment she curled up.

It was good to see her easing up just a bit. Zelda thanked him, and the touch from her nose jolted him, inside, just the slightest bit. It wasn't at all unpleasant. When all she offered was a shrug to his question, he let it pass. He was sure if there was anything she truly needed she would tell him. In a nicely surprising turn, she took the lead from him and motioned that he follow to the river. Without any second thought, he did so, following at first, but soon pulling up beside her with a glance. In that spare second he took in her features, just reaching the point where she seemed to be getting on in her life, but doing so beautifully. She would always be young to him, though of the two of them he had less years on his life.

As they went away, things were more and more silent. No sounds but those nature had to offer. He gave a small sigh. Content to this, relaxed and relieved to be away from it all. He shared her feelings about the mingling of wolves within their lands, and it was a comfort to know they could be trusted among one another, residing in peace. If only they could all be that way... They reached the river. He watched his friend begin to drink, and soon followed, surprised to find how much he needed the water. When he finished, he watched the ripples drift out and subside. He was looking into his own reflection, mind blank. Meditative almost, until thoughts of his father began to creep in. He noticed how much they looked alike, and came to wonder what the old man would have thought. He assured himself that Aleksandr would have been proud. Not haughtily, just enough to keep him going.

A few droplets of rain began to come down playfully on his head. He looked up to the heavens, blinking the stray drops away. When he looked down, he noticed Zelda just looking up at him. He cocked his head, a confused smile on his face. "What?" he chuckled. A softness came to his gaze, and he found himself content to stare back. Rodion took a step forward, hesitating. He felt like some sort of timid boy, and for him, the silence became awkward. He was so unused to these feelings. And yet, when a roll of thunder pealed overhead, his concentration remained. He posed a simple question, seemilngly entranced as he said it. His tones were younger, more casual than his usual manners of speaking. "Should we... head for the den?" The rain came down a bit more heavily as he said it. He nozed the wet spot on her forehead. "Don't want you to get too soaked." A small laugh came to his lips, unprovoked, and before he himself grew too rainsoaked, he brushed past her solidly in his own attempt to lead her onward.

Zelda was sort of surprised at first when Rodion nuzzled her because it was a bit sudden but then she realized that he was probably in need of comfort just as much as she was...as they all were. Then he told her Tom was buried in the meadows and she smiled softly and nodded. "Thank you". She touched her nose to the bottom of his jaw and her tail wagged slightly. She followed his gaze to the sky and noted the clouds rolling in as well. Good, perhaps it would cleanse these lands once again. Her ear flicked as he addressed her with an unfamiliar word but she liked how it sounded. She would probably never say it out loud but she had always enjoyed the sound of Rodion's voice, the way some words came out accented with his native language. She shrugged in answer to his question and looked away. She wasn't sure if she needed anything. But then she looked at him once more and motioned for him to follow. She was awfully thirsty, there had been too much talking, arguing, yelling for her taste and as the rains would clean this land it was time to cleanse her mouth.

So she led him away from all the wolves, dark and light mingled together so carelessly. It was a strange feeling knowing that her pack was safe with them here. All for one pup. It seemed there was hope after all. For some at least..

Coming up to the river she crouched down and took a long drought of water and like a cat dipped her paw into the water an smoothed it over the top of her head. Better to wash the dust of the den off. Smiling she peered up to look at Rodion..

Rodion looked up calmly as Link's scent wafted his direction. He rose, a kind smile playing his face as they acknowledged one another. He was glad to see the bru well again. He was proud to have such a noble character as a friend. He tilted his head slightly as the bru went down into the den. "Link, when next you come out, I have something important to discuss with you." Perhaps if Cinder recalled what he had hinted as to their beta pups and therank he intended for them, she would mention it. He would let them have all the time they needed, and didn't want him to be rushed in the slightest. After all, he didn't want to be rushed either. Because as his sentence finished Zelda emerged. His tassel wagged back and forth heavily at first. But he noticed her expression and let it drop to no more than a subtle movement.

He fell into a nuzzle with her, embracing her about her neck. He lingered there for a long time, comfortable, and yet feeling more than just that need to hold onto her. Her question made him sad, just slightly, but it had to be asked. He nodded slowly. "Yes," he confirmed, stepping back to see her face. "He's safe now. In the meadows." He looked towards the darkening sky, both the sun disappearing and the clouds rolling in. They didn't fully threaten, and he was grateful to know that tonight Tom could see the stars. The hessian offered up another smile, trying to comfort her. In his heart, he begged her to take up his previous offer. It was clear she was still grieving, and he wanted nothing more than for her to stay with him for the night. His crown came to nuzzle her again, at her cheek. "This is a hard time for you, milaya. Is there anything you need?" It was slowly beginning to occur to him what these affections meant to him. And that he did them not of his own volition but out of instinct was what intrigued him most. Was it possible that he had feelings for her? For his best friend? Rodion became aware that tonight was of no mere coincidence. It would be a chance to test the waters. And he prayed she wouldn't shy from him. He prayed he wouldn't either.

Link stared at his reflection in the river, his eyes unwavering. It is time to take back what is yours Link. No more fear, take your voice back and your family. The pup was his family, no matter who was the father, no matter the mother even. If Cinder wanted to adopt a squirrel he would love it like his own. Ear flicked and he looked up to see a small tawny bird staring at him and strangely enough it reminded him of Cinder. The corner of his mouth turned up and he closed his eyes for a second and breathed in everything. It was time to go back. The tri hued brute shook his pelt cleansing himself of the recent battle and turned and trotted back to dens. Wolves were scattered about and he nodded his head to each he passed, no matter their alignment and stopped at the entrance of the den. Rodion lay there done with whatever wolf had entered their terra and he nodded his dial in appreciation of the alpha and made a small bark to his sister inside. Zelda laying next to Cinder smiled and kissing the fem on the check and giving a soft nuzzle to the two pups crawled out of the den and stood face to face with her brother. For a moment they just observed each other then a smile slowly broke out across their muzzle. In which they embraced, Zelda nuzzling under his neck and Link returning the affection. Then he moved past her into the den and paused to look at his mate before crawling forward and quickly wrapping himself around her soft form. Burying his face in fur his body rumbled with content.

Zelda glanced into the den feeling very happy for once in a long while but the trials of the pack hung on her and she knew that it was a long time until everything settled once more. Then her eyes fell on Rodion who was next to the den and noted that he smelled of earth, Morgan and...Tom. It was obvious she had taken the scents in so when she tilted her head and spoke softly it was clear who she was talking about. "Is he...is he safe now?" She couldn't bring herself to say the word buried.

The alpha's eyes followed Sawyer as he departed peacefully. The direction he headed was true, and he found no reason to follow him any farther. He turned his large form around and headed back to the pack. He had one last order of business to attend to, as he had promised. He allowed himself a more leisurely pace on his return, knowing Morgan didn't want him back right away. It was his long strides, however, that carried him back to the spot at much the same pace. He arrived, looking with disdain at the stain Tom's blood had left in the earth. As he looked, more spots became clear, more blood. Balthier's, the dog's, the human's. He snorted softly, the sting of salt and iron trapped in his nose. It was unpleasant and familiar, the smell of death. His had turned to see his guardian still with the body, carrying it a long way away.

He loped quickly over, slowing down beside Morgan, face a picture of mixed interest and concern. "Where do you take him?" he asked softly.
The hessian looked up at him with a wry smile. "To his den in the meadows. He always talked about how beautiful they were... the stars. I want him to be under them forever."
Rodion nodded, a knowing smile in response playing on his lips. "Kind and wise. And well thought." The rest of the way they traveled silently. When they reached the den Morgan lowered Tom to the ground tenderly at its entrance, then positioned himself behind. With gentle teeth, he pulled the dead wolf into his den, allowing him to lay simply inside. When he emerged, they stared. He just laid there... so quiet. Morgan sighed. He had nothing to leave with the bru, but it seemed appropriate. The old man would have denied a gift were he alive.
"Well," he said quietly, "There's nothing left for it. Let's begin."
Rodion pitched in, and they began to bury the bru. The work went faster with two, and Morgan was grateful for the help. It would have been exhausting and depressing to do it alone. The dirt flew softly, pattering to rest inside the den. It filled more and more rapidly, and soon, Tom's body disappeared. The hole was finally sealed, and as soon as this was evident, Morgan walked away. Rodion came up beside him. "You're not going to stay?"
Morgan panted looked to him, panting lightly. "I've stayed with him long enough. It's time to let go and stop looking back."
The alphen nodded somberly.
"Besides," the bru continued, "I will see him again."
Rodion smiled, understanding fully, yet found the words to be slightly disturbing. Fatalistic. He let them pass. Every wolf had his own manner. They grew closer to the pack, and it was with them in their midst that he paused.
"It's here we have to part ways. If you want the rest of the day to yourself, Morgan, feel free. I think all of us deserve a rest today."
The Welsh couldn't object, finding that a rest really was what he needed. "Thank you," he nodded, and made the walk back to his own den.
With a sigh of relief, Rodion found himself relatively free of obligations. It came to his attention that most of the Jabbar wolves had parted ways. He kept the possibility open that they would return, at least for a short while before reclaiming Jabbar. He wasn't quite sure where he stood on the issue himself, but he knew in his heart that if it came down to it, he would fight alongside them in an instant. Some of his pack mingled with the others left behind, and Landen held his attentions shortly. "Udachi," 'Good luck', sprang from his tongue. He watched the hessian depart, hoping the best for them all. The short meeting having ended, he moved toward Cinder's den, knowing Zelda to still be inside. He didn't intend to bother them, but he laid his form outside the den and waited patiently.

It gave him a chance to rest his tired frame and be near the two femmes he cared for most at the moment. She would smell his scent and know he was nearby. Just so they knew he was there at all. He wanted so badly to sneak inside and stay with them, admittedly more Zelda now than Cinder, and just protect them. Though the danger was passed, he still couldn't help but feel such emotion. Why did this keep happening to him! His feelings ran wild, and though no one else knew it, it was humiliating that he couldn't keep them under control He pushed his pulse down, subduing the awkward feelings for now. Until she emerged again... What was this?

Landen was to let the packs do as need be. Then entered one male who reeked of Muerta... Strange. The Midnight wolves came and Landen turned his attention to Exodus. "I must seek out Serenity... You know why. I don't want to leave you but anyone here knows how fond I've become of you and I know the wolves of Midnight and Jabbar would die for their common alliance. You and Damean Jr." Landen went to speak more when Rawbones stood an left... Why were they leaving? He took a deep breath and exhaled slowly. "I must find him
And soon." Landen leaned into Exodus as she pressed closer to him and he smiled. "I love you grieving child..." yes he was older then her but age wasn't anything to his mind. "I'll return swiftly..." he smiled and stepped up to Rodion. "I'm going in search of our lost packmate. I'll return with her shortly she hasn't gone far. Our Akiko's Serenity means more then anything to us and I know she went to Muerta after the midnight wolf." Landen was speaking in code and he turned to Sawyer "Tell Akira Damean's brother says things will settle. Tell her Evander sent the message" his eyes shifted to Rodion and he nodded. Hopefully the king would understand the reason for the strange verse that would make sense to anyone but that of a Muerta or someone not from jabbar or here...

landen turned and was off pacing away from the pack only slowing to take in everyones scent... Specially Exodus... Her soft words echoed in his head and he smiled as his body crossed the boarder...

Blade was glad Petra was fine. He was even more glad he'd been around to get her out of harms way, although she probably had only been there because he was. Her attention seemed to be on the trio of wolves he'd spotted moments before, but didn't ask. He didn't know any of them, since he'd only been here with Damean for a short talk. His mind nearly swelled on their deceased leader before he focused himself.

One of them was approaching, and with a bit of fancy etiquette. "Blade," he offered his name, not having much to say. His eyes quickly glanced over Vaarak and Braeden. Based on what this wolf said, she would probably be very cautious, and he figured it would probably be better if he didn't stare. "You fought a human and are injured," he stated simply. Balthier seemed to be looking at him in mild surprise. "You act for your image and brother. It's not difficult for me to tell." He was glad the other didn't seem to be offended at his bluntness and short words. Ever since admitting his feelings for Petra, he was a bit more talkative, but was still working on the being social part.

Balthier nodded as Rodion responded, and left. Then he turned his gaze towards a pair of wolves standing nearby. He finally recognized one of the Jabbar wolves, but only that she was a familiar face. Glancing at Vaarak, he knew the younger would want to bound over to them at this sign of friendliness, and sharply placed a paw on the ground in front of his brother, doing everything to avoid startling Braeden in the process. "No. Stay here. Talk to her. If she's fine, bring her over. They aren't near any other wolves with them." His sharp look softened as he turned to walk over towards Blade and Petra, hiding any limps he may have.

"Hello, lady and sir," he said smoothly in greeting, as if he always greeted new faces this way. "I was... preoccupied earlier and didn't have a chance to notice any of your pack. I'm known as Balthier." Looking at Petra now, he said, making sure to keep his tone polite and casual, "I remember you from some time back, although we've never spoken." He titled his head backward, and said to both of them in a lower voice, "That there is my little brother, Vaarak and a more recent member of the pack, Braeden. She's... had a difficult past that involved humans and is limited in communications. We're still not sure the full story. My little brother is quite a loud one, so don't think he's just targeting you."

Vaarak noticed the wolf hybrid wagging a tail at them, but hadn't even moved when Balthier's paw landed in front of him. Yes, he'd known Braeden had been scared of all these wolves, but the excitement almost made him forget. He was still a bit young and easily distracted. Nodding at his brother's words, he watched as he left to apparently greet them. "Make friends?" he questioned Braeden, trying to make it clear it was her choice. He nodded his head towards Petra and Blade. He didn't remember her, but she looked friendly.

Petra looked to Blade as he asked her how she was. She wouldn't admit that she was a bit shaken by her own recklessness, but other than that she was fine, thanks to him. "I'm fine, thank you Blade," she said softly, leaning over to him to kiss his cheek. Like him, her attention soon floated over to the wolves surrounding them, the wolves of Midnight Meadows. She recognized many of the faces from her earlier stay with the pack, but some were new to her. Particularly the thin, nervous-looking female that hid behind Balthier and Vaarak. She wagged her tail over at them, though she didn't know how well they remembered her. Being an outsider, she hadn't had much contact with any of the wolves except Cinder.

Braeden followed near to Vaarak, keeping close to him as they returned to the mainlands. Her eyes grew wide as she saw many new, unfamiliar faces. Many of them were scarred and looked as dangerous as the dogs she had fought with many times over in her life. Some were looking her way, and she stepped cautiously. None of the wolves seemed to be interested in moving towards them, so she could only assume they weren't going to attack. Nontheless, she attached herself to Vaarak, her pelt touching his, not wanting his comforting presence to be gone from her side. She felt much too vulnerable when she was not near him. She glanced briefly over to Rodion as he spoke with Balthier and mentioned her name, then watched him go, wondering what was to happen next.

,Wishing on a Shooting Star, :MB: - Page 21 RawbonesBRN

Nothing had changed. All of this pacing was useless. Where was Akiko? She had disappeared long ago chasing that massive brute, and it worried him that she'd been gone so long. Maybe he should have gone after them, just to make sure she didn't get hurt. Rawbones knew she was fast and could hold her own in even the fiercest of battles, but what if... He didn't want to think about it. But it was all his mind dwelled on. He glanced around him. Wolves were everywhere returning from their own fights. Akiko should have returned by now. The elder sent a glance to Cinder's den. It was well-protected, and nobody here would think of harming the whelps within. Kneading the ground anxiously, Rawbones waited several moments, then took off at a high pace.

He moved past the meadow, and into the trees, following the scent trail that Akiko and the mad hessian had left behind. He noticed that something seemed off as he approached the border; the brute's scent had faded, veered off in another direction, but Akiko's scent lingered. She had kept going. His stomach turned, feeling almost frantic for a moment. Why had she left? She wasn't one to run away like this. "You're no coward, Akiko..." he murmured to himself, "So why have you gone?" He hoped she hadn't gone to do something stupid on her own, or worse, abandoned their pack altogether. But that just didn't seem like her. There had to be a better reason for her leaving. Lifting his head to the sky, Rawbones let out a low, gravelly howl that called to her.

Then he set out, intent on finding her well and alive...

Cinder

Cinder cupped her ears and looked up at Zelda as she entered the den. She smiled at her when she licked her cheek and Cinder then thumped her tail as her friend joined her. "I..." Cinder said softly. "I know Zelda." She said flicking her ears back and glancing at her children...their children....her and Link's. Even if they weren't of his blood. She looked at Zelda and parted her lips softly. "He spoke Zelda....Link spoke." She said still disbelieving she heard his voice again. Her voice was full of emotion. She felt partially responsible deep down. She brought them. She licked her nose and felt the pups nose at her belly in their sleep. "I don't know what to name her...' She said looking at the tiny silver female pup.

Zelda was pleased when Cinder seemed fine enough with the arrangements and she grinned at his not so subtle hint of their possible rank. Though Zelda was unsure what Link would think of this. The last alphess he had declined the position preferring that of the lead hunter. She wondered if his mindset had changed. Rodion emerged and she filed away her thoughts about her brother for later.Grateful for his affection she smiled softly. She read a hesitance in his face for a moment before he asked her something she had not quite expected. He asked for her to stay in his den. She paused and he did give a good reason. Today had been quite hectic and with Link now staying with Cinder it would be nice to have someone to sleep with tonight. Ears flicked back at the thought of sleeping with a male that was not family. It had been...a long while. But before she could answer he was gone with another affectionate gesture. She knew that business took priority over her answer to this question. Frowning she watched his retreating form and wondered what this offer meant to him. They were old friends but he did not know about her past...but don't be silly Zelda..he was merely offering as a friend. Right then, no need to get nervous. And what was this strange flutter in her stomach anyways? Huffing she shook her pelt and before the anxiety could come on turned into Cinder's den.

She licked her friend on the cheek and looked at the little pups. They were so precious. "I'm sure Link will be back soon Cinder. He just needs a moment. He feels...well...he just feels." Zelda knew her brother and knew better than anyone that he needed a moment to himself.

Sawyer

His ears flicked forward at the approach of Midnight Meadow's alpha. He tipped his dial respectfully. Sawyer wasn't looking for a fight this time. He just wanted to know of his love's safety and the truth of what happened in Jabbar. He nodded when Rodion said Akiko was not here. "Thank you." He offered. "I must find her and speak with her soon." There was a longing in his voice that could not be mistaken, Sawyer loved her. "I am trying to seek the truth on what happened in Jabbar. As well as searching for a pup. One of the queen's own daughters was stolen. Mercy by name. Playfull little girl." Sawyer had been upset by the news of her theft. He loved pups. "I know our queen would be most grateful for her return."

Sawyer wasn't implying that Midnight Meadows had the whelp. They weren't of that ilk to stoop so low. He just was hoping by chance by spreading the word ...well more eyes make it easier to find that needle in a haystack. "Thank you for your time but I must make haste." Sawyer gave a half bow of his large form in respect and then turned. "Please mention my visit to Akiko...in case I miss her. You can tell her of what we spoke of." He flicked his tail and turned running across the sands his black nose twitching for Akiko's scent.

Rodion's attentions had been vaguely on Cinder as the issue from Muerta seemed to be a quiet one. In a moment's time however, he was caught up in Zelda's voice, snapping him from his deep stupor. Were he to look back at the train of his thoughts, he wouldn't be able to see its beginning. She beckoned him from his duty, and Cinder reassured him of such. He smiled to her warmly and nuzzled her cheek briefly. "You're a wonderful mother, Cinder. And the children are beautiful. They will carry on a strong beta line," he winked, hinting at the rank to her, and slipped from the den.

Meeting Zelda on the outside, he gave her a nuzzle as well, though a longer one for their strength of friendship. He sighed, though, recalling the business he had yet to attend to. His amber pools caught hers for a minute. "When this day is done and we can finally rest, I was wondering if you would stay in my den tonight." The thought of asking made him nervous at first, for reasons only partially known to him, but they came out well enough. "With all of this madness, I'd hate for you to be alone." The tip of his nose nudged her chin and he strode off, leaving the words open for interpretation. He couldn't force her, no matter how much he wanted her to acquiesce. The question was passed, though, and he set his mind to business, moved swiftly onward.

He was met by Balthier, and he took a moment to acknowledge the hessian. "The commotion was Legend deciding to come back and haunt Cinder. But the problem has been taken care of thanks to Link and some others." He looked around, assessing the situation where everyone seemed to linger. Things were settling, and he was grateful. But he still wasn't finished. "I'd like to speak at length with you, but I'm sure you heard the howls. I have a few more things to see to here." He gave a nod, "My regards to you and your brother. And Braeden as well. We'll catch up, I'm sure of it." He bounded off, mind strictly focused on this last meeting before hopefully catching a break. To the border, to the border, to the border...

When he arrived, things seemed diplomatic enough. There was no fuss or injury, and the atmosphere was free of most tension. He gave a nod to Morgan to stand down, though he was hardly in a dominant position as it were. The alphen pricked his ears forward at Sawyer, tassel lofty as he addressed him strictly but kindly. There was no need for introduction. It was clear enough who he was here. "You've come to the right place, stranger, but Akiko isn't here at the moment. The last she was seen, she was chasing off another intruder. One of the Midnights it would seem." He let himself relax a bit. It was clear the bru meant no harm. Nice to see someone from Muerta with some culture. "Unless you're certain you must speak with her, I can certainly pass on your word when she returns." In awaiting a response, he looked to Morgan. "Thank you for the favor. But I can take it from here. Perhaps you could finally tend to Tom? I'll be around shortly if you need any help." He watched as the guardian nodded with a smile to both him and Sawyer and left at his jovial, brisk trot. The king's attentions fell back on the large hellion, expression calmly eliciting an answer.

Blade turned his attention away from Exodus back to Petra, who had remained by his side. He shifted closer to her and asked, "You alright, then? Other than no injuries?" He remembered how much of the pack had view both Exodus and Legend as their own. The whole encounter hadn't affected Blade as much as he figured it would, although he supposed it had something to do with Legend not knowing as much about Blade as he would have, if he'd remain loyal to the pack. His words did get him thinking, though, mostly because there was little else that was new to think about. Feelings were a curious thing, though, something that he would now guess that he wouldn't be able to stop questioning. Logic would dictate that he stop Legend from harming Petra by biting the assailant in the hind leg to drag him down. Instead, his instincts failed to do this, and instead, tugged towards the notion of making absolute sure she wouldn't get hurt by physically getting the the way. Feeling, specifically love was odd. He would have used to thought such a feeling would get in the way, but his thoughts had drastically changed since them.

While waiting for a response, his eyes shifted to gaze towards Rodion. The wolves had appeared, clearly from these lands, but injured. One, the female, looked nervous; the one who looked closest to Petra's own age was completely unhurt and looked like a bundle of energy... and was looking their way. He glanced to the last wolf, who seemed to be related to the younger one and more heavily dotted with injuries, although he had no knowledge of how severe, and had the fading scent of a human lingering. Blade guessed the dried blood that still clung belonged to both the wolf and the... hunter? No other type of human would probably wander this far into these sort of lands. He averted his attention from them, and wondered where Akiko was. Crow was near, as well as a wary female for which he felt better, since it showed that the young Damean and Cinder were protected while they were gone.

Balthier looked around, seeing few wolves near Cinder's den, other than some of the Jabbar wolves, Rodion, and Fran. Some of the others were nearby, while others further. He walked up to the alpha, and asked, "So, what was the commotion about earlier?" It was easy to take the idea of dark wolves staying here in stride. What wasn't easy was not knowing such a large group on a slightly more individual basis. Eyes glanced back towards Vaarak and Braeden, as he wondered if he should ask his brother to take her elsewhere for now. The herbs on his pelt were drying quicker than Braeden's probably were- his brother still had a sloppy touch. He denied himself the idea of scratching it off, knowing he'd just reopen the injuries and give himself an infection. Blood still marred his fur, and he vaguely wondered what impression the other pack would have on him, but there had been more hurry to close the wounds than to even think of taking a wash. At least he had stashed the knife away and not brought it with him. Who knew what that would have done to his image. He turned his head slightly to the Jabbar wolves and slightly nodded his head in greeting before turning his attention towards the den for a brief second, finally returning to Rodion.

Vaarak couldn't tell the difference between dark, neutral, and pure, yet, and so looked at the wolves curiously. Normally, he would have bounded over asking their names, but he remembered Braeden, who he was unsure of what her reaction would be. Instead, he remained a distance behind his brother, hoping Braeden would at least be comfortable with the distance he kept. He noticed a hybrid, who looked just a bit older than he was, standing next to a larger wolf who, in his first impression, seemed to look similar to his brother. He looked serious and protective, although he did look a bit more intimidating than his brother was. Maybe he could meet them in a bit, since they seem to be staying here.

The Ethiopian wolf was glad that this danger was over, and hoped Cinder would fare better with Legend dead. She was sitting down near Cinder's den, waiting to see if anyone needed anything. Some wolves and Exodus came back, Zelda soon left, and Balthier, his brother, and Braeden arrived. Fran hadn't gotten a good look at them earlier, and almost grimaced in sympathy.

Huffing and puffing, the elder watched as the wolves of Midnight Meadows came and went. He knew when the wolves returned that Legend had been destroyed, and he was quite glad for it, considering all the brute had done. His gaze moved between the den and everything else going on. He knew that little Damean would be doing well with a full belly by now, and so his only thoughts wandered to Akiko, wondering how she fared. She had darted off after some hooligan, but he was much to slow to have kept up, much as he'd have liked to share some of that brute's blood. Feeling flustered and helpless, Rawbones continued to pace around pointlessly, his mind merely switching between thoughts of Damean and Akiko.

Cinder

Her thorns flicked forward hearing Zelda's voice and she sighed and nodded. She nosed her pups. Their father's were dead...both of them. Cinder felt pity for Damean that he would never know his father and for her daughter she felt fierce joy that she wouldn't know of his cruelty. She heard the howl from the border...another from another pack. She sighed. Why couldn't they just leave them in peace? She heard Zelda leave and Rodion speak. She nosed the alpha and was about to tell him to go when Zelda's voice came again saying that she would stay with her. "It's alright Rodion. Go.." She said and nosed him again, nudging him to let him know it was okay for him to leave.

She glanced at her young and blinked silver eyes. She had to give her little girl a name...and soon. Though words weren't forming in her head at the moment. Too much stress perhaps or was her brain fuzzy because of the labors of birth. She kissed both Damean Jr. and her little silver fem. "I love you both.." she said softly.

Zelda was watching and vaguely paying attention to what the others were now saying. At the moment she was just concerned with Cinder and Link. When Cinder spoke up she spoke to her from the entrance of the den. "Link is okay...I think he just needs a moment. Everything is going to be okay Cinder." Zelda felt very happy. Happy that Link would finally be able to live in peace with his family...his family and her's but not quite hers. Zelda had known for awhile now that while never would they be completely apart her brother's life had been split from her own at last. It did not make her bitter or anything. It made her happy that her brother finally had a family. A strange anxiety ran through at the thought of a family. She was destined to never have one. All her babies...all her poor poor babies. Perhaps they were lucky, lucky to escape a harsher fate...

Shaking out her memories of the past as a howl rose in the air her head perked up. It was an undeniable call of one of Muerta's. Before she could take action Rodion was already taking charge. She felt a smile tug at the edge of her mouth but very business like nodded and quickly tipped her head to the sky. Releasing her howl she knew that Morgan was worth his salt and was probably already heading for the stranger. She began to step to follow up but paused. She went to her brother instead pushing through the brush she found him standing at the edge of a calm part of a stream. He sat tail flicking from side to side. "Link..." He lifted his head and looked at his sister and smiled. O Zelda, his sweet sister. She stepped up to him and there was an understanding that exceeding any physical realms. "Link, pack business calls, do you release Rodion from his promise?" At this his ear flicked and he nodded. Cinder was safe now. "I shall wait with Cinder now." Again Link nodded. Opening his maw his throat contracted several times before he pushed out. "Only..a..moment.." She kissed his cheek and bounded back to Cinder's den, she missed the soft smile that he brother's face held and the peace that had finally entered into his troubles pools.

"Rodion, I will watch Cinder until Link returns. Then....I shall join you?" She questioned. She wasn't sure if he rather her stay here.

Sawyer

His russet auds flicked forward as he heard a howl go up in the lands for someone to come check him out. He licked his black nose. He wouldn't have to wait long. Soon before him appeared a bru who skidded to a halt. Sawyer flicked his tail. "Greetings. I am Sawyer and yes I do hail from Muerta." He said. "I am looking for my queen's sister, the lady Akiko." He said eyeing the stranger. He kept his massive form relaxed and calm as he let his orange gaze drift past this brute. Little did he know that Akiko was not in the lands. "I know she has entered your lands, I followed her scent here. I need to speak with her."

So Legend was dead... He had breathed a sigh of relief at the news. He began to wonder towards Link and how he must have been holding up under the pressure. But he was sure the bru had done just what he had wanted and gotten the justice he so deserved. Cinder was certainly worked up over the matter, but to his relief it seemed happier this time tather than angsty. He observed quietly as she curled around her pups and wanted to just embrace her briefly, in sympathy, but thought better of it. His snout instead gave her a gentle, reassuring nudge. Everything was alright now, and her love would be home soon. The family could be together any time now, and he was grateful. Hearing Zelda's voice above comforted him, knowing the place was well guarded, especially the den by her watchful eye.

How he cared for her so. And all of this tension and despair and childbirth, how close they had all become, it sent his head reeling. And it made him begin to ponder, in these precious moments he had to sit back and think, just how deep that care ran in his veins. Hearing her warm voice, noting the way his heart raced when he looked at those pups, how he caught himself smiling every time... He shook the thought from his mind. How silly. They were such old friends, their bond was... He couldn't possibly... could he? He let the thoughts mull over in his mind, not fully banning them but not paying them close attention either. Just as he once more began to find comfort, a howl rang out. A stranger's. Muerta's. He felt his fur begin to rise, though he tried to keep from tensing up. It was a wonder it took them this long to show up, really. The vague musk was wafting this way. He pulled his brows together. "Zelda," He barked, though plainly, "Send up a howl for me? Morgan still patrols the borders, send him in the stranger's direction." It was a silent thing between them, whether she wanted to go or not. And in this instance he honestly wasn't sure which one she'd choose. He had the natural instinct to go investigate himself, but he had promised Link. And he wasn't about to break that. No matter how much the danger had ebbed.

----------

Morgan caught the howl immediately, and had just come to pull around in its direction. Whoever this wolf was, at least he had the decency to speak up instead of just barging in. He knew the command would be sent up for him to investigate, but it wasn't worth the wait. He knew Akira's wolves to be deadly... and impatient. And for both reasons he didn't want to take the chance. Had he been aware of the relationship between this bru and Akiko, he would have ben a bit more lax, but it was still unknown to his mind, so he found his pads rushing him to the site. He sighed to himself as he ran. One more thing keeping him from the burial.

The Welsh's pads carried him swiftly, and he stopped at the bru, while coming nearly at full speed, on a dime. He found himself looking up slightly, his average frame paling in comparison. He secretly prayed that he wasn't looking for a fight. Despite the circumstances, he put on his best face and addressed him. "Hullo there, stranger." He began friendly enough, but his tones were heavy with seriousness. "The scent of Muerta is on you. What is your name, and what business do you have here?"

Sawyer

His paws ran swiftly to Jabbar and he spied on it's occupants. For such a large wolf the bru was stealthy. He found Mercy's scent and also found it leaving the lands with the scent of another. He frowned and also found that Jabbar's original pack had left the lands. This was an interesting piece of information...one his queen would definately want to know where they went. He made up his mind and followed Akiko's scent. His large frame ate the miles and tracked the one that stole his heart. By the scent of things...the whole pack...minus Damean and Jaded...had left.

He came to the border. Midnight Meadows and wondered if he dare cross the boarder without announcing his presence. He wanted to find out what was going on. He swished his tail. It seemed they went into the lands willingly...but why. Akiko was still here...that was enough for him. He tipped his maw and howled.

Cinder

Her ears cupped forward unbelieving of what she heard from Zelda's lips. Legend was dead....truely? Could it be that easy? "Link?" Was the word that came from her lips....still in shock from hearing him speak. "Is he okay?" She asked and looked back to her daughter...and now her 'adopted' son and was glad for their safety. She nuzzled them both. Legend would have killed them...she knew it down to her very core. But now they were safe...for now. She sighed and looked back to the entrance of the den and looked over to Rodion and gave him a soft smile before curling around her young with a tired sigh. She wished Link were here curled around her.

,Wishing on a Shooting Star, :MB: - Page 21 Crow10

Crow stood there, feeling awkward moments of dispassion passing him by. He watched Exodus mourn, keeping his distance, and peeked about at the others not so far away. He nudged her, knowing he needed to get back to his packmates and left with a sigh of exasperation. This land was under torment of the worst kind, its atmospheres punished by greed and guilt, sorrow and loss. In realizing this it was the purest he had felt in the longest time. Before he had cut his own losses and turned to this new path. Seemed Midnight did things to you. He didn't hold anything against the pures; it just wasn't... his style. He didn't mind it though, this sudden feeling of peace beneath his unrest, but he knew it wouldn't last. He found himself near to Rawbones when he stopped walking and brought his mind into the present. He nodded to him, not in the mood to speak at present, and looked around to observe all he had missed. There they all were, protecting little Damean and one another, and in their minds all swearing their allegiances as though it mattered, as though some secret spirit could hear them. He found himself a nonbeliever, mind held captive by realism and knowledge rather than religion. Fenris this, Fenris that. It was all fine and dandy, but after all he had seen and been through, and after seeing everything they had all been through, what kind of god was there now? This was no longer some divine test of will. This was a lack of divinity altogether.

Landen approached. His form became slightly less relaxed, assuming this hessian as a sort of superior. He hadn't seen the body's disposal, but he had a feeling the bru knew exactly what had to be done and rid them of Legend. It was a pite he himself had walked away too soon. He would have loved to witness Link's crushing blow, his final revenge. His mind snapped to when Landen began to address him on his nephew. The description would be most helpful in finding him. If only he knew where to start. If they were both like Damean it would prove to be - ironically, considering his last string of thoughts - a blessing. He listened to the rest of the words, letting a reminiscent smile cross his marked features. "Damean was wise in his decisions and his rule. A true king. He understands that a dark state of mind doesn't mean we have to be bloodthirsty, torture-minded fools. Evander was wrong about him. And it's a shame he couldn't see it." He raised a brow to Landen, perking his ears. So the plan was up to him, was it? The smile disappeared, expression grave as he spoke resolutely of his cause. "Your brother must be overthrown. And if we can get Serenity to join our cause, then it may just pose enough of a problem to Evander that we can actually make it happen. We find him and tell him the whole story. Then we plan from there, if he accepts. I don't see it being too hard. The pack has shrunk dramatically since we fled." He looked around him at the otherwolves, gaining more of a coherent idea. "And should our numbers be too small, our allies are right here. They may be able to help us take it back if they're willing to honor our treaty." He ended it there. Going on would make him seem far too rash. He would let Landen think about it and throw in his input. Then they could be on their way.

Landen stayed while Legend was killed. "he goes down in the river. Not around here..." He sighed and picked up the back of Legend and began to drag. He wasn't very heavy must have not cared for his health to much. It hadn't taken as long as he thought and soon he was pushing the body into fast moving currents. The
black brute stood there for a moment watching the body float away and get sucked farther down out of the lands. "your soul will never rest just like the waters young fool. I'm sorry brother" he looked sky wards and sighed. He knew damean could hear him. It was now he would need to make a choice. His body turned and he went back to the group of wolves from Jabbar. "you wish to seek his son well then look for his mother she travels everywhere with him. I hadn't known his name till now. So strange. I have seen the brute once when he was a pup. He's of white pelt not like his father but his mother. His mother is like Damean so I'm guessing that he will be too. I don't know what happened so badly in Jabbat. Evander would talk about weakness in his sleep about Damean but now I see my brothers thoughts. Why create so much war when you could have help like this in other places when in dire not because of your allignment but of trust. Whatever you plan I'm with you." Landen smiled at Crow and waited for a responce
